“La storia che vado a raccontarvi inizia circa una cinquantina di anni or sono, nel villaggio di Oto. Come molti di voi sapranno, per molto tempo questo villaggio è stato la base operativa del Sannin Orochimaru, fino a quando gli succedette alla guida del villaggio il capo del Clan Fuuma, il nobile Ryuuzaki, che assunse il titolo di Nidaime Otokage. Ebbene, costui aveva un servitore, un nobile Hatamoto che ricopriva la carica di Kiri-Yaku: era, in pratica, un armaiolo di grandi capacità ed uno spadaccino senza eguali. Era infatti suo compito eseguire la cerimonia dell’O-Tameshi per conto di Ryuuzaki, un rituale con il quale venivano periodicamente controllate le capacità della spada Sashiryo, cimelio del Clan Fuuma, utilizzandola per mutilare i prigionieri di guerra su cui era già stata eseguita la pena capitale. Con la scomparsa (per quanto temporanea) del Sannin Orochimaru, le prigioni erano colme di sfortunate ‘cavie’ e l’Otokage decise di liberarsi di loro in maniera terribilmente drastica, condannandoli imparzialmente a morte. Tange Asaemon, questo il nome del Kiri-Yaku, fu il primo degli ufficiali del Nidaime Otokage per molti anni e passò la carica al figlio, Honoji. Sarebbe poi stato compito suo proseguire la tradizione, servendo fedelmente il Kage del Villaggio del Suono, per poi passare l’incombenza al figlio e così via…ma, come in tutte le storie, c’è qualcosa che non va. Tredici anni fa, l’ultimo Kiri-Yaku (Tange Enoki) venne invischiato in un complotto volto a rovesciare l’autorità del Kage, e fu costretto a fuggire dal villaggio, portando con sé il figlioletto Kenzo, ancora in fasce. Dopo mesi e mesi di inseguimenti, con molte perdite tra i suoi effettivi, la squadra inseguitrice di Oto riuscì a mettere Enoki con le spalle al muro e ad ucciderlo, facendo del bambino un orfano a tutti gli effetti, visto che la madre aveva perso la vita nel darlo alla luce; tuttavia, secondo gli ordini impartiti dal loro diretto superiore, gli Anbu riportarono il bimbo ad Oto, affidandolo all’orfanotrofio del villaggio. Ora, a quattordici anni di età, Tange Kenzo è del tutto ignaro del suo passato e di quello della sua famiglia, così come lo sono i suoi conoscenti; le redini del villaggio sono passate in altre mani e l’Accademia Ninja ha riaperto i battenti[…]”
